2021 Renovations

24TH DECEMBER

RAS have been in and finished off all the aluminium in The Kitchen. Keith the sparky has been busy too advance the electrics. And the lads have been fitting lighting to the exterior of the building so The Swan sign is visible at night. ave a gander at our Renovation Diary. Ho Ho Ho!

17TH DECEMBER

Another week, another team have been in. This time the specialist for the cooker hoods and aluminium that is going on the wall. Please have a look at our Renovation Diary to see the transformation.

10TH DECEMBER

This week the team from Lino Len's hsa been in laying the flooring in The Kitchen, storerooms and the hallway. See their progress in our Renovation Diary.

3RD DECEMBER

It has been all hands to the pumps this week with the Lexie and the students helping too. The aim is to get the walls finished so that the floor can be laid next week. Some photos are in our Renovation Diary.

26TH NOVEMBER

The most important news for a long time - a planning meeting with the kitchen fitters, McFarlane Telfer. And lots ore battening and boarding. Some photos are in our Renovation Diary.

19TH NOVEMBER

Our valiant Weekday Warriors have continued their campaign against the aged and uneven walls in The Kitchen and adjoining Storerooms.

12TH NOVEMBER

Insultation and battoning were the key tasks this week. Some effort from the Warriors to get The Kitchen and The Storeroom ready. And some time to fix the gate post and wall too.

5TH NOVEMBER

Battens, battens and more battens. All had to be put in vertically and in parallel so that the fireboards will be true. Some photos are in our Renovation Diary.

29TH OCTOBER

The turn around on the security features for the gates was very quick indeed. As soon as they were back thy had to be painted to protect them.

In the bat there were some new additions and further painting in the gents toilets. In The Kitchen, the lads were putting up battens.

22ND OCTOBER

The guys were working in THe Bar itself this week replacing the counter top behind the bar. Greater strength was required due to the weight placed on it.

Also Micky got involved with the cellar drop, renewing the concrete which was showing its age.

15TH OCTOBER

This week the team have tackled a number of different jobs such as fixing the flat roof above the gents and concreting round the cellar hatch. On Monday there was a volunteer day to address some snaggings and make some minor changes.

8TH OCTOBER

A relatively quiet week down at The Swan ... well lots of prep work was done and addressing not very sexy things that are behind the scenes. Piccies in the Renovation Diary as normal.

1ST OCTOBER

The Kitchen ceiling is now fully plastered and drying out. Prep work continues for the next stage in there. Also the guys are working on the cellar drop down area and replacing the temporary hatch. Some photos are in our Renovation Diary.

24TH SEPTEMBER

Reason to celebrate - the plastering has started. This is a major milestone. The ceilings are complete. The walls still need plasterboarded but that is coming soon. Have a peep at our Renovation Diary.

17TH SEPTEMBER

More insulation and fireboarding within the stairwell and the corridor. Prep work for battening and fireoarding The Kitchen. All behond the scenes so worth looking at our Renovation Diary for the week.

10TH SEPTEMBER

The Kitchen ceiling has been fireboarded !!! What more is there to say? A huge step forward by the team.

3RD SEPTEMBER

A really busy week in continued renovations of The Swan. The ceilings in The Kitchen and The Store Room were insulated and fire boarded. A new false wall and door are also being added to The Store Room. And some improvements made with The Courtyard surface to make it more even.

27TH AUGUST

Full steam ahead for the Warriors. The last of The Kitchen ceiling rafters was reinforced and the ceiling filled with insulation. In the hall insulation and sound boarding was added. Cables pulled through and a bobbin reel table refurbed. Wow! Want to help? Please get in contact.

20TH AUGUST

The Warriors returned to the fray later this week, having earned some time off for good behaviour with their work towards the SwanFest. Once back in the saddle they continued with The Kitchen works, doing some final preparation required for the power services, whilst also turning their attentions elsewhere and bringing in materials for the forthcoming works needed for the pub cellar hatch.

13TH AUGUST

Contractors have been working on stable 1 to make an office for the school whilst the warriors continued preparations for SwanFest.

6TH AUGUST

Team have got stuck into The Kitchen beams again making excellent progress. Also the tidy up The Courtyard carried on with another flower bed added. And preparations for SwanFest are in full flow.

30TH JULY

Busy week for the team. They repaired and whitewashed the front wall, whilst also installing new flower beds all making The Courtyard look that bit better.

In parallel the tema continued up on the roof and down in The Kitchen, as weather permitted. Still a lot of work to be done but progress can be seen.

And they even had time to put a new top on one of the bobbin tables.

23RD JULY

Down in The Courtyard there was a lot of preparation for the forthcoming AGM to spruce up the place a bit. New signagfe, new tables and a basic brush through too.

Meanwhile up on the roof, new volunteer Thomas was fixing the roof - good man! Whilst in The Kicthen, the team were installing acrows to support the ceiling whilst they finished the joist work.

16TH JULY

Work has continued in The Kitchen with the re-inforcing of the old beams in the ceiling. This takes quite some time to do giving all the other stuff hanging around.

9TH JULY

Another week of work in the kitchen for our band of Warriors. Beams on the window side of The Kitchen ceiling have been reinforced, no easy task with the first fix already in situ. With the GR6 pupils now out for the summer work has continued to provide acoustic insulation in the stairwell and, soon, The Kitchen.

2ND JULY

Our bar manager took up the brush / roller this week and did some re-painting to tidy up the bar area. Meanhile the Warriors were reinforcing the kitchen ceiling joists in preparation for boarding.

25TH JUNE

Work continued in The Kitchen with insulating the ceiling whilst the professionals continued with the first fix of the electrics and plumbing.

The team also started sealing the new stairs and perhaps their greatest accomplishment, hung the new dartboard.

18TH JUNE

Keith has been really busy within the hall and The Kitchen putting in all the power wires that are required for the ovens, etc. See our Renovation Diary for this week.

11TH JUNE

The team have been putting the finishing touches to the stairs leading up to THe School House. Meanwhile Keith our electrician has started the first fitting in The Kitchen. See our Renovation Diary for this week.

4TH JUNE

28TH MAY

With the students studying in The School Room and the bad weather, the work was limited this week. The team managed to place the new stairs in place and test them for fit. See our Renovation Diary for this week.

21ST MAY

More work in The School Room this week after clearing (plus selling) all the scrap metal accumulated in the renovation. Some piccie in our Renovation Diary.

14TH MAY

The School Room has had the floor reinstated and the guys have been working on the chimney breast to reinstate the wall panelling. The professionals have been back up on the roof of the pub and the stables doing further remedial work. There are a couple of pictures in our Renovation Diary.

7TH MAY

The Weekday Warriors have been joined by the professional team so things are moving at pace. Further work has been done upstairs and dowstairs on the new extraction unit. Also The Kitchen exterior wall has been re-instated. see our Renovation Diary for more.

30TH APRIL

The Weekday Warriors have been surprisingly camera shy this week but the results of their work remain clearly visible. They have been hard at work clearing out wet and dry rot in the store room (aka Room Of Doom!). Not very sexy but absolutely essential going forward. Have a peek at our Renovation Diary.

23RD APRIL

Whilst the concrete is drying, the guys are working to restore The School Room after the new extraction unit has been installed. There's a few piccies in our Renovation Diary.

16TH APRIL

With the concrete currently drying, the Warriors have been limited in what they can do. With the school returning soon, the Warriors re-started work to finalise the floor round about the chimney which now has the new extractor. See our Renovation Diary.

9TH APRIL

The guys have been busting a gut this week to get the concrete laid in The Kitchen, hallway and The Store Room. Working to 12.25am (yes in the morning), the prep work was completed. They were back again at 8am to lay the concrete. See our Renovation Diary to get a flavour of their achievement!

2ND APRIL

The Kitchen has taken more steps forward with the team putting in the protectors required for the power and getting the floor ready for concreting. And there were quite a few deliveries too! It's coming together quickly now. See our Renovation Diary to see what has been happening down at The Swan.

26TH MARCH

RAS are in to start the riser for the kitchen extractor. The area they will be working in is the schoolroom to get this ready for after Easter GR6.

19TH MARCH

The Warriors were hard at it again preparing for the installation of the kitchen extraction system. The kitchen equipment started to return including a new pizza over. And the lads chalked out the final plan to ensure no mistooks. See the Renovation Diary.

12TH MARCH

The Warriors have had to leap tall buildings this week having removed the stairs between the ground floor and The School House above. The stairs will be replaced very soon. See some photos in our diary entry for 12th March.

5TH MARCH

Work has continued in The Kitchen and The Storeroom to prepare the walls and floors for the next stage. This has taken a lot of back breaking work moving screed from The Courtyard to where it is needed. Deliveries of raw materials for the next stage have also started appearing. You never know, the kitchen itself might be next.

26TH FEBRUARY

Various members of the team and contractors were in last wekend and completed the rebuild of the backwall of The Kitchen.

During the week, the lads have been working on filling in the gap created by moving The Kitchen fireplace and levelling the floors.

19TH FEBRUARY

The rebuild of The Kitchen is in full flow. Improving the brickwork and installing new lintels. It's full steam ahead for the Weekday Warriors. Want to become one? Everyone welcome!

12TH FEBRUARY

The week work to be th steels in started. And we saw some magnificent driving to get a rather large tipper truck into The COurtyard to remove all the debris from The Kitchen and backrooms.

5TH FEBRUARY

The Weekday Warriors have continued their work in the depths of The Swan. They have continued clearing away and prepping in The Kitchen, The Store Room and in The Hallway. The Room of Doom is no more.

29TH JANUARY

The guys have continued with the other backrooms and also The Kitchen. We are almost at the point where the contractors can walk in and finish it off in a few weeks (LOL).

22ND JANUARY

The new kitchen windows were delivered! A great piece of work by Windsor Joinery. Along with that, the guys have digging for gold or for the centre of the earth, we're not sure which. The Kitchen floor is taking a considerable amount of extra effort - typical of a very old building as we are finding out again.

15th JANUARY

The Weekday Warriors have continued their work to preapre for the contractors to come in. This week they were digging out the walls where the new steel joists are going. Gertting read for the pads, etc as directed by buildings expert.

8th JANUARY

The guys are back at it after the break and are getting stuck in to The Kitchen floor to take it back to basics. In doing so they made some interesting finds.
