The Swan Quiz on the Internet
Our quizzes have been very successful over the past months. You may even recall some of the evenings and winners (Swan quiz nights). Sooooooo, during the lockdown we have moved online. We've had three quizzes so far which have been good fun and had a good attendance. Why not join us?
The quiz will be in the normal format of five or six rounds including probably geography, sport, film & TV and general knowledge. There will also be a special round set by one of our guests which will be announced here and in our weekly email - so get swotting. In the case of a tie, we will have a "nearest to" question.
There will be a short break of approximately five minutes in the middle so you can top up your glasses.
Each night we will have three winners:
- Best Team
- Best Household
- Best Individual
This is to reflect the online nature of the quiz where not everyone can get together.
How do I participate?
To be honest, as we had a minor inconvenience of some zoom-bombing idiots on May, 19th, we will have to put in place some form of pre-registration for June. Nothing ardious and will be similar to the Bingo. Just click on this link:

Unfortunately this is now a closed group as we cannot publish joining instructions publicly due to a "zoom bombing" incident. Bombers please note that if there is malicious use of any of the information provided, we will pass the offending email address (along with other information recorded by MailChimp and Google Forms) to the authorities for them to follow it through. The Swan is a community pub and hub for all and we do respect each other; please respect that. Thank you.
We do suggest joining a few minutes before to make sure the technology all works. Note that we are limited to 100 players on the night (this is a technology thing).
When you are getting ready, please can you make sure that change the screen name to match the one you have told us about (e.g. first name, nickname, team name, etc). This will help us manage the quiz better. You may also want to change your background.
It's up to you whether you mute or not during the quiz but please be aware we will be able to hear everything you say if you are unmuted - that means everything.
Does it cost me to play?
NO! There is no charge for taking part in The Swan Quiz. However, on June 2nd we would like to take the opportunity to give a huge shout out for Family Friends, our local charity for 2020.
This team of volunteers provide essential emotional and practical help for local children and families who are struggling for a variety of reasons. The volunteers are continuing to provide their support as best they can during this challenging time when families need their help more than ever.
Any donation you could give to help them, would be greatly appreciated. A huge thank you for anything you can give to support local families in need.

Whilst we are online, we would ask that players / households:
- temper your language as there may be kids present;
- try not to talk over others, give them a chance to finish
- do not submit to distractions, we can see you and some will get annoyed
- control your environment (e.g. barking dogs)
- remember your microphone and video are still on until you leave the call

We will be using Zoom to host the game, which means that we can have two way interaction with video and sound! If you have broadband or WiFi, it is best to use this as a mobile connection may not be fast enough and/or may use quite a lot of your personal mobile data.
Whatever device you are using, please make sure you have a lot of battery or the charger is plugged in – we don't want to lose you just as your 'bingo' comes up!
If you don't already have Zoom, it may ask you to install a small add on for your PC, tablet or phone. It is not strictly necessary to do this, as you can use a web-based version, but we would definitely recommend it! Don’t worry it is very easy and completely safe!

|How much does Zoom cost?||A basic Zoom license is free. You won't have to worry about this for The Swan Bingo.|
|How do I join The Swan Bingo?||You can join The Swan Bingo by clicking on the "Join The Bingo Game" button in the email provided or going to join.zoom.us and entering in the meeting ID.|
|How do I join computer/device audio?||On most devices, you can join computer/device audio by clicking Join Audio, Join with Computer Audio, or Audio to access the audio settings. |Do I have to have a camera to join on Zoom?||While you are not required to have a camera to join,, you will not be able to transmit video of yourself. You will continue to be able to listen and speak and view the video of other players.|
|My video/camera isn't working.||If your camera is not showing up in the Zoom Settings or it is selected and not showing any video, you can troubleshoot why it is not working via the tips here: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/202952568-My-Video-Camera-Isn-t-Working|
|There is an echo.||Echo can be caused by many things, such as players connected to the meeting audio on multiple devices or two players who have joined in from the same local. The source of echo can also be from: speakers (such as TV or soundbar) that are too loud, echo cancellation has failed (device or performance issue), or a bad microphone.|
