August 2021

Here is a round-up of the events from The Swan during August, 2021.

11th Aug: Quiz Night

The winners of this week's quiz was Beyond Our Paygrade. They were a team made up of some of the volunteers who have been running events and working on the renovation of the pub. Well done guys!

Beyond Our Paygrade

Micky was the Quiz Master this week and took to it like a duck out of water. Again, The Courtyard proved popular with quizzers due to the temperature and being outside.

12th-15th Aug: SwanFest 2021

Running from Friday 13th until Sunday 15th August, we were open from 10am until 11pm each of the three days of SwanFest. All were welcome and as a bonus, there was no entrance charge. We had an excellent range of activities for all ages including, but not limited to:

  • Family fun including face painting, games and crafts.
  • A beer festival with a wide range of excellent ales, lagers and ciders.
  • Music each evening with different bands each night.
  • And our famous BBQ each day.

25th Aug: Quiz Night

These week's winners are Hettie's Heroes who have won several times before. Sitting out in The Courtyard, it became a little brisk after the sun went down. But that didn't deter them!

Hettie's Heroes

Martin was back to ask the questions to a busy pub. The pub itself, The Coach House, and The Courtyard were all busy with quizzers. The Quiz is back and becoming a real regular again with quizzers. Why not come along yourself? Every second and fourth Wednesday at 7.30pm.

29th Aug: Bank Holiday Market

Collecting the Fresh Produce

Pam and Brendan O'Reilly kindly donated the fresh produce for this month's mini-market in The Courtyard. There was one stipulation: come and dig it up! So the team went early on the Saturday morning and worked down the farm in Horton to collect a wide variety of vegetables and sun flowers.

The Stalls

This month we had the return of many of our popular stalls. The CheeseMunger was there. There were stalls for jams, books, crafts and more. A great variety was to be had. Here are the stalls before the market started.

Antiques stall Vegetable stall
Ear rings stall Cheese stall
Craft stall Young lassie, perhaps 2 or 3, thrwoing a sponge from about two feet away - hit!

The Courtyard

Once the pub and market opened, The Courtyard quickly filled up. People bought from the stalls and stopped off for a little refreshment too. After all, it was a bank holiday and there was probably no work tomorrow. The weather was dry and a reasonable temperature so we were lucky.
