Renovation Diary: July 2021

Week 26/21: 2nd July 2021

This week the Warriors were joined in their endeavours by our genial host Micky, who decided on his day off to don his site gear and get stuck in as well. This gave the opportunity to deal with some snags and running repairs needed around the bar area.

Elsewhere the Warriors have continued with the painstaking and meticulous work of reinforcing the kitchen ceiling joists in preparation for boarding. With this next phase of work looming Ron Smith from RAS Installations is visiting site to finalise plans for the design, fabrication and install of the main extractor canopy.

Week 27/21: 9th July 2021

Another week of work in the kitchen for our band of Warriors. Beams on the window side of the kitchen ceiling have been reinforced, no easy task with the first fix already in situ.

With the GR6 pupils now out for the summer work has continued to provide acoustic insulation in the stairwell and, soon, the kitchen to ensure that pupils and staff in The School House are not disturbed once the kitchen is in full swing.

Week 28/21: 16th July 2021

Warrior work on reinforcing the remaining area of kitchen joists has continued with the team working in relay, Tony cutting a threaded bar to be used to bolt them together, Trevor and Ian then bolting and clamping new joists into place and Trevor finishing off by sealing each into the wall with mortar.

Tightening up fixing bolts

Sane or not? That is the question. The flashing over the backdoor needed some modifications after the latest downpours. The lads got a good day for it and managed to enjoy themselves too.

On the Monday we had a squad of volunteers in to spruce up The Courtyard and get prepared for the Soul Duo, the band playing before we started, and also the presentation area. Given numbers, we also fixed up some tables and altered the layout slightly but still in keeping with old covid restrictions.
