Renovation Diary: June 2021

Week 22/21: 4th June 2021

What a difference a week makes. The Weekday Warriors have, again, been striving to reach new heights. Installing a staircase, especially one that has a 90 degree turn, is no easy matter. After a great deal of sweat, a few tears, but thankfully no blood, a magnificent new staircase has been built to restore access to The School House. But, beware the gremlin under the stairs!

Our resident sparky was back to disconnect the Food Van which is disappearing early next week. Also our resident plumber - Scott - was in to add the radiators to the ground floor of The Coach House. Next week he will connect them up just in time for summer.

Although this band of Warriors continues to achieve great things they really would appreciate some more help, even if only for a few hours. Please contact Ian Birch (07889 816098) for more details of what help is needed.

Week 23/21: 11th June 2021

The Weekday Warriors have been hard at work as usual this week and were joined by Scott (plumber) and Keith (electrician). The WWs this week (Trevor, Tony, Stuart, John and Ian) continued to finesse the new staircase and install more Permagard to protect the walls.

Meanwhile the professionals started work on the First Fix plumbing and electrics, a job that will continue next week. The work undertaken by our volunteers and professionals is greatly appreciated but they would welcome more help.

A lot of wires have to be pulled through
Keith must have long arms working at height all the time

Week 24/21: 18th June 2021

If a picture paints a thousand words then the photos below make it very clear what has been happening this week. First fix fun and games with grateful thanks to Keith (electrician) and Scott (plumber).

Keith hard at work
Piles and piles of cables hanging from the ceiling
In the ceiling you can see lots of new cables
And down at floor level too

This shows why we need professionals for the plumbing and electricity. To the normal person, this is just a jumble of wires - hopefully it means something to them!

Even The Cold Room jas lots of cables
And in The Kitchen itself too

If you feel able to spare a few hours to help the team please contact Ian Birch (07889 816098) to see what is required.

Week 25/21: 25th June 2021

Despite the variable weather the Weekday Warriors have been hard at work again this week and were joined in their efforts by a special guest! Progress has been made installing insulation into the ceiling of the kitchen which will also aid noise reduction for those in The School House above (a filthy job but someone has to do it!). More work has been completed on the first fix plumbing and wiring including installation of smoke and fire alarms. McFarlane Telfer have donated more key equipment and assisted with planning the final phase of gas service installation.

Work on applying a protective finish to the new staircase has also been carried out this week.

The installation of a dartboard in The Coach House will hopefully not distract or Warriors too much.
