Renovation Diary: February 2020

Week 6/20: 7th February, 2020

The Weekday Warriors have continued to take advantage of the better weather and have been tackling the roof again. You know? The bit under the blue tarpaulin and around that area.

Remedial work is progressing really well. The guys have cleared the debris, and creeper, and have put in the framework for the replacement roof. This will be then protected and made water tight using a specialist compound.

Want to be a Weekday Warrior? Come down any time Mon-Fri from about 9.30am. All help appreciated.

Week 7/20: 14th February, 2020

When the Weekday Warriors came in on Monday morning after Storm Ciara, we had only one issue: the tarpaulin covering the Coach House. This was pulled off by the storm and was allowing water ingress. Once the weather was better, Trevor and Ian were up ladders making the necessary repairs to fix the tarpaulin down. Given that Storm Dennis is approaching, the guys had to make additional fixings.

With the weather this week it was decided to hold back on external works.

The electrician came in and has installed lighting to the rear corridor of the pub. This means we can remove the temporary yellow light cages.

Work has started on the stockroom to make it bigger, safer and more secure. We have started removing the partition and installing proper shelving for Matt and bar team.

Week 8/20: 21st February, 2020

On the dryer days, the Weekday Warriors have been parachuted into the garden behind The Swan. They have been clearing the accumulated debris from many years that has built-up behind the kitchen wall and a cause of damp we have experienced. Thanks to Hazel for her support.

When it's wet, the lads have been inside and continuing work on the stockroom. Last week the wooden partition was removed. This week a new door frame is being added and a fire board installed (hopefully Friday afternoon!). Next week the team will be installing shelving and helping the bar team put all the stock back in.

Week 9/20: 28th February, 2020

This week has seen work progressing both inside and outside. Although to the casual viewer, none of it will be seen as it is all behind the scene.

In the Stock Room, the Weekday Warriors have been putting up and leveling the new racking. This will take all the bottles, cans, crisps, et al replacing the old reclaimed stuff from the now closed Asian food supermarket.

Outside the team were joined by professionals to carry on the clearance of the debris behind the kitchen wall. The aim is to get the ground level below the damp course.
