April 2024
Here is a round-up of the events at The Swan during April, 2024.
2nd April: Warhammer
Happy 1st Birthday to the Warhammer team especially the Games Master himself - Daniel Jacobs. It was time to break out the party hats and raise a toast because this week they were celebrating a major milestone - their 1st birthday! From their humble beginnings to where they are now, it's been an incredible journey filled with unforgettable gaming moments, new friendships, and endless fun. They've rolled dice, battled dragons, and embarked on epic quests together, creating memories that will last a lifetime. A huge WELL DONE to the Games Master and everyone participating each week. To get involved, email gamemastersofwindsor@gmail.com to get more info and book a spot at the table.
6th April: The Cycle Hub
A bumper day for the Windsor Cycle Hub up in Windsor Great Park at the Sharing The Space event. A great conversation opportunity to discuss Active Travel in appropriate spaces with Paws On Paths and Ground Nesting Birds awareness. As ever lots going on with Bike Kitchen at our The Swan in Clewer HQ, & later when our Guided Ride made it up to Blacknest Gate to join our events crew.
5th & 6th April: Fine Dining
There was a special kitchen takeover for two days with Chef Peter McConkey being a spectacular success. Over two nights he prepared some fabulous fresh dishes to rave reviews from The Swan community and newcomers to our pub alike. We are in discussion with Peter about a return visit later in the year so keep your nose to the ground so you can get a table booked as soon as they become available!
9th April: Warhammer
This evening marked the beginning of an epic new game year, and we kicked things off in style with nothing but large game mats! Get ready to level up your gaming experience as we go big for Year 2 of our Warhammer club. With larger-than-life game mats, immersive storytelling, and epic battles on the horizon, there's never been a better time to be a part of our gaming community! To get involved, visit the Game Master of Windsor website.
10th April: Quiz Night
Micky was back in the Quiz Master's chair at this week's pub quiz, with another round on ants (who knew there were so many little-known facts about our insect friends?!) and a dastardly collection of famous quotes! The Desperados came out on top to win the £25 bar tab, whilst Sonia won a Pint of Beer in the raffle. Quiz Lord Martin is back for the next quiz on Weds 24th April, when the rollover raffle jackpot will be a stonking £60!
14th April: Lou's Sunday Roast
Louise was back in The Kitchen creating an excellent choice of roasts and other meals for the community. She continues to get excellent reviews on Facebook and Google which is fabulous feedback and testament to the level of cuisin. Here are just a couple of her delicious meals before delivery to the customers. Lou is taking a break and will be back on May 5th.
18th April: Bingo Night
It was a record breaking Bingo Night last night, with over 40 players dabbing and singing in a packed pub, with prizes galore! In the Top of the Bill final game, Frede walked off with £10 for a line, and the Full House cash jackpot of £30 was shared between Amanda and Natasha! Our next Bingo night is Thursday 16th May, book a table early!
23rd April: St George's Day
On Tues 23rd April we had a really special St George's Day evening in the bar. We were entertained by the fabulous Voci Chamber Choir singing a very English collection of songs, culminating in a rousing chorus of Jerusalem! We were fed by the inexhaustible Lou and Ian in the kitchen, who served up a great English meal with a Lemon Posset dessert to die for. Dawn as George slew the dragon to reveal the raffle prizes and Trudy celebrated Shakespeare's birthday with the great Bernard Levin's poem. Everyone had a super evening, if a little late for a school night! Thanks to all the volunteers involved with devising, creating and running the event on the night – it was a wonderful example of the Swan Community coming together to celebrate!
A huge thanks to all the volunteers, especially the committee, who put on a memorable event to matk St George's Day and the anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth. And especially Voci who entertained with some fantastic singing.
24th Apr: Quiz Night
Quiz Lord Martin was back in the chair at this week's pub quiz, with distinctly historical questions based (loosely!) around St George's Day. Patrick's Posse came out on top to win the £25 bar tab, and in a rare occurrence of random chance, Roger from the Posse also won the raffle, picking a glass of wine as his prize. The next quiz will be Weds 8th May where the raffle jackpot will be a stonking £70! The Swan Quiz is getting popular and table’s fill up fast - book yours early to be in with a chance!
26th Apr: Coffee Morning
This month's Coffee Morning was for our community chosen local charity, the King George VI Day Centre. Thanks to the volunteers and bakers for their help running this event. We made just over £200 for the Centre. Huge thanks to all!
26th Apr: Chatty Café
Our Chatty Café was joined this day by the walkers from the community group Maidenhead United who ran a Wellness Walk from the Leisure Centre which finished at The Swan.
27th Apr: Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror fans came out in full force! A first in our cinema screenings, just for the grown ups on this occasion. A shockingly good first event, complete with rice, newspapers, KitKats and so much more.
28th Apr: Spring Market
Despite some heavy 'April Showers' the first Swan mini-market of 2024 was a great success with all stallholders doing a roaring trade. If you missed the opportunity to purchase tomato plants at bargain prices, Dawn will be back in the Courtyard on Sun 5th May from 2-4pm.
