March 2020

Here is a round-up of the events at The Swan during March, 2020.

1st March: St David's Day

Sunday was St David's Day (1st March, 2020), so in tribute to our Welsh friends we held a craft session for children to make daffodils in the main bar.

6th Mar: GRS Careers Coffee AM

The Green Room School hosted its very first Careers Coffee Morning at The Swan. They invited local professionals and employers to network with pupils, educating them about the world of work as they prepare for adulthood. By using the format of 'careers speed dating' pupils were able to quiz careers volunteers about the realities of work and the journey they have taken into their current vocation. It was fantastic to see our young people engage and socialise with new people and more importantly have conversations that can inform potential pathways for their future.

11th Mar: The Cheese Munger

On Wednesday evening the Cheesemunger visited The Swan. He brought along an excellent and varied selection of British cheeses. Some were known, some not so. A real mixture of hard and soft, traditional and modern. We were slightly unsure how many people would come, and were pleasantly surprised to say the bar was full and the cheese was going down an absolute storm. Mike's selection was spot on and many of the cheeses sold out by the end of the evening. A resounding success and one to do again!

Lest we had known this was our last event prior to the covid-19 lockdown. Who would have seen bars and restaurants being closed, working from home becoming the norm, and how our world would change probably for good ...

19th Mar: Temperature Testing

Yesterday temperature testing started when the bar opened at 4pm. Customers all approved and whole heartedly supported the move. Thankfully all tested with a temperature less than 37.5°C. We continue to review daily and will update immediately should there be any changes.
