Renovation Diary: August 2020
Week 32/20: 7th August, 2020
The Coach House
Building work on the Coach House continued on schedule this week with the focus on insulating and plaster boarding the upstairs interior ready for plastering. As you can see, the fascia has now been painted and the beautiful cast iron guttering and downpipes installed.
There has been detailed re-pointing to the old brick work and the steel tie rods are now in place adding extra strength to the structure.
The windows and door frames arrived this week and have started to be fitted. The Jayflex guys are making this look so easy! We will soon see how the building has regained its former glory when all of the work to exterior is complete and the scaffold can come down.
Weekday Warriors
John has continued to prepare the chimneys and walls by removing the old loose pointing which does need replaced. Tony and Ian have been working on the new guttering and painting the soffits, fascia and guttering black to keep in character.
The guys have placed some sound proofing to the rear corner of The Courtyard above our "Wall of Doors". Hopefully this will make it a little quieter for our neighbours.
Week 33/20: 14th August, 2020
The Coach House
With the main bulk of the building work on the Coach House complete, the team have been concentrating on details such as making the window sills and painting the exterior walls. It must have been tough for them working in the heat this week, but they continued to work at speed plastering the walls ready for mist coating. The focus has now moved to insulating the downstairs ceiling, making it a very safe and warm space for all to enjoy.
Weekday Warriors
Another very busy week for our Weekday Warriors has seen them achieve a great deal despite the heat. Guttering and down pipes have been painted black and windows on The School House have been prepared. The Courtyard has had another tidy up in preparation for a busy weekend and a cable has been installed through to the covered area in preparation for a TV.
Week 34/20: 21st August, 2020
So much has progressed with The Coach House this week it's hard to know where to begin. However, a good place to start is that the scaffold is down! The team worked hard in the rain mid week to peel away the steel layers and unveil the beautiful work that has been happening over the last couple of months.
The upstairs room has had windows and door panels fitted along with skirting and sills ready for painting at the end of this week. Plaster board has gone up on the ceiling and back wall of downstairs ready for plastering over the weekend.
Meanwhile more tweaking of light fixtures and repointing of bricks continues along with skillful artistry to the lead work on the front bressummer beam. We are awaiting the arrival of our big double doors that were sent away for pampering and soon the building’s copper earrings (lanterns) will go on!
Work continues on the ground floor, watch for the floor being replaced! And stop press: just as publishing this page, we received a photo of the new lighting.
Week 33/20: 28th August, 2020
The Coach House
The final tweaks have continued to be made this week as the deadline for the completion of the Coach House swiftly approaches. Rendering to the base of The Coach House finished early in the week which will again help with making the building water tight. Exterior flooring tiles were laid on the landing between the School House and the IT suite giving it a slick, safe finish.
The upstairs floor has had beautiful vinyl floor tiles fitted and more paint has been applied to the walls both upstairs and downstairs. Soon cabinets and furniture will start to arrive and we will have an opportunity to get into the space puts things in their place in preparation for the students imminent arrival.
And there was more electrical work and of course ... you guessed it, painting!
The Weekday Warriors
The Weekday Warriors turned the side stable door round so that the coffee machine could be re-instated for the weekend. They all installed more bike racks to support the launch of the Cycle Pitstop. And of course there was more painting, and more, and more ...
Cookie the Cat
And we had a visit from royalty. Well not exactly. Cookie the Cat came in to see how we were progressing and give a purr of approval. Cookie lives close by but likes to pop in now and then to see the lads.
