January 2026

Here is a round-up of the events at The Swan during January, 2026.

2nd January: Dry January

After the excesses of the festive period, many of our patrons were keen to attempt dry (or nearly dry!) January, so our alcohol-free Nirvana Pils and 3.4% Kernel Table Beer both went down a treat! Tasty and refreshing, both are great alternatives to normal strength beers for those looking to give their bodies a wee rest!

10th January: Windsor Cycle Hub

For the second Saturday since New Year, Windsor Cycle Hub cancelled their guided ride as the dreadful weather made it just not safe to be out and about group cycling. But the Bike Kitchen volunteers were there as every helping folk to get their bikes looked over and in ship shape condition ready for when the weather brightens up again!

13th January: Green Canteen

The Green Room students held their first Green Canteen dinner service, creating great stone-baked pizzas in their Pizza Oven to the delight of diners!

13th January: Local Creatives

Local Creatives begin the first of their new Watercolour Painting courses – they are now so popular that there are two a week! Painters new and old, of all abilities, turned up for a night in Stables 3-4 to learn all about landscape painting from a master.

14th January: Quiz Night

The first Quiz Night of 2026 was another corker, and it was fitting that on his special birthday Patrick led his Posse to victory! And although Ellie's team were awarded the Jammie Dodgers, she picked up a house spirit and mixer in the raffle so it was smiles all round!

15th January: Dave leaves the pub

This week we said au revoir to David, our popular bartender, who moved on to pastures new! It's the end of an era, and over 4 years Dave has been a big part of The Swan journey. All of us at The Swan wished him all the very best in the future and look forward to seeing him the other side of the bar now and then! Thanks for everything Dave!

17th January: Windsor Cycle Hub

The weather was suitable for WCH to have their first guided ride of the year.

22nd January: Bingo Night

The first Bingo night of the year saw Glamorous Assistant stepping in to call when Capt Richard was indisposed. One table had the luck of the Bingo Gods with Cathy, Alex and all winning in the main games and Alice picking up a fiver for a line in the cash Top of the Bill game.

Elsewhere, Jean, George, and Margaret pick up large drink prizes and Emily won the £12 House prize in the cash game. A small but perfectly formed group of Bingo-ers had a great time and were still home in time to watch their recordings of The Traitors!

24th January: Burns Night

The Friends of The Swan Burns Night 2026 was an amazing success! Forty diners enjoyed the traditional menu during a Scottish themed evening which included The Selkirk Grace, Burns’ Ode to the Haggis and of course Morag who drew the raffle! The star of the show was Archie, our talented young piper who blew everyone away with his wide repertoire, expertly played - perfect for the evening!

Huge thanks to the kitchen team of Lou, Ian, Anthony and Anne for a delicious meal; Dawn, Richard and Trudy for efficient and attentive table service; Will, Richard, Andrew and Dawn for their themed entertainment; and of course, our bar team for making sure everyone stayed well lubricated throughout the night! Final confirmation of the evenings profit is awaited but looks to be around the £1000 mark, not including the bar takings!

28th January: Quiz Night

This week's Quiz Night was crammed to the rafters with new teams pitting their wits against Quiz Lord Martin. Everyone was delighted that The Cherubs came out on top after a wacky tie break, and Max the Dog picked the Jackpot from the raffle envelopes! Mum Erica decided the £20 winnings were far too much for an already cosseted little dog and very generously donated them back to the Renovation Fund – thanks so much Erica!

A huge THANK YOU to the community, and to Dawn and Richard who have organised the coffee mornings over the last year. Also to the bar staff who have supported the mornings.
