November 2024
Here is a round-up of the events at The Swan during November, 2024.
5th Nov: Bonfire Night
What a great Bonfire Night we had this week – we will remember, remember 5th Nov 2024 for some time! The youngsters loved the sparklers, and the adults loved the mulled cider around the firepit! Everyone tucked into Micky's great One Pot Chilli Wonder and bopped the night away to the brilliant BackTrak! It was a super community get together, with regulars and new faces alike coming along to take in the vibe – thanks to everyone for turning out on a cold Tues night
9th Nov: Windsor Cycle Hub
Despite the gloomy and chilly weather , the WCH took on Datchet and Ditton Park today. Three groups on the road due to the number of riders! Loads of punctures etc. fixed back at the Bike Kitchen at The Swan.
9th Nov: Karaoke
Return of the Karaoke after a short break proved popular with the locals.
13th Nov: Quiz Night
Another packed Quiz Night with Not Bloody Last Again winning and Windsor Wine Swillers runners-up. Keith, from Relegation Battle, won the raffle and drew a pint of beer.
15th Nov: Christmas Cards Now Available
We are pleased to announce that The Swan Christmas Cards are now available from the bar. The fantastic image is from Steph and Caitlin, students of our onsite college. Inside it says simply 'Seasons Greetings'. They are available in packs of ten cards for only £6 per pack. All proceeds from the sale of the cards are going to the ongoing refurbishment funds. Why not get yours now?
21st Nov: Bingo Night
Winners of a line were: Liz, Lucy, Joanna and Colin.
Winners of the house were: Amanda, Kate and Liz (just in photo) & Gillian.
It was another cracking night at the Bingo and well attended.
22th Nov: Local Chamber of Commerce
The Maidenhead and District Chamber of Commerce held its annual Business and Community Awards 2024. The Swan had been nominated as a finalist in the Community Project of the Year category. This was due to our Chatty Café. It celebrates “outstanding initiatives that have made a significant and postive impact on local communities, demonstrating exceptional dedication, and collaboration to address community needs and enhance the quality at life for residents”.
The award went deservingly to People to Places. It is a charity that provides community transport and Shopmobility services to local residents in RBWM since 1989.
Anne and Trudy from The Friends of The Swan committee were there as representatives and used the occasion for networking. Oh, and they picked up a little award too if you hadn't noticed ;)
27th Nov: Bingo Night
Some strange team, aka The Desperadoes, won the quiz with a top score of 42. All 14 teams on the night proved they knew more about South America than they realised! Tina picked up the raffle prize which she drew as a packet of crips. Next raffle jacket is £80.
29th Nov: Coffee Morning
We had our last charity coffee morning of the year. This month it was for our chosen local charity, the King George VI Day Care Centre. We were pleased to raise £317.59 for them through the sale of hot beverages and home made cake. Thanks to all those who attended, the bakers, and to the volunteers who ran it.
30th Nov: Santa's Jolly Jaunt
A huge thank you for everyone who came along last Sat to take part in Santa’s Jolly Jaunt! Three of our most successful community groups combined to guide 18 cyclists, 12 walkers and 12 runners on routes of various length around the town adorned in Santa hats, tinsel and more, we raised an amazing £450 from your generous donations and sponsorship for the Friends of The Swan Renovation Fund, all of which will go directly towards the refurbishment of the pub frontage.
With special thanks to those who worked together to make it happen: Windsor Cycle Hub, Windsor Town Funrunners, Mirella from Chatty Café and of course to Micky and the bar team for feeding and watering us all after all that exertion!
30th Nov: Uku-oke
Our first ever Uke-oke! Accompanied by our very own Windsor Ukulele Band, a packed pub sang their hearts out to songs as diverse as 'Wild Mountain Thyme' and 'YMCA'! A brilliant and unique evening which will be bound to be repeated.
And who could forget David's show stopping performance?
