The Coronation Weekend
Many of the local community joined us at The Swan over the holiday weekend for the Coronation of King Charles III. On Saturday, we had a special brunch menu, live music, and TV coverage of the event, with a BBQ in the evening. Sunday was a day of family fun, including a fancy dress competition and a DJ. On Monday, volunteers helped Swan Support with a wildlife clean-up in the local area with a drink and BBQ afterward. See more details on all of this below.
BUT before doing that, we must make a HUGE shout out to the volunteers and staff who made this all possible: Trudy, Ian, Louise, Dawn, Martin, Kieran, Connor and Micky. Without all their preparation work over the months before, this wouldn't have been such a success. Well done guys and gals. We also would like to thank the Town Cryer for Windsor for judging the fancy dress competition on Sunday.
Coronation Service & Celebrations
The pub opened early at 9.30am to allow the community to come together and watch the Coronation live on TV. Some came dressed up for the occasion, however everyone really got into the spirit. The pub was packed with well wishers who enjoyed the camaradarie of watching together this very special occasion.
In the afternoon, we welcomed the return of Mark & Sherridan for live music from 3pm 'til 5pm. This very popular duo is well known to The Swan's locals and yet again they had people singing and dancing along to some well known hits. And that is despite the weather being a little unseasonal too.
In the evening, we fired up the grill for a mouth watering barbeque from 4-9pm. The bar was open until midnight, so people enjoyed a few drinks too.
Sunday: The Big Lunch & Coronation Concert
There was a variety of food available in two different sessions. A special 'Big Lunch' picnic buffet from 12-4pm, followed by a delicious 'Big Dinner' Commonwealth Hot buffet from 6-10pm. Both went down a storm!
That's not all - we had a Kings and Queens fancy dress competition for the kids and slightly older ones who embraced the fun too! The competition was judged by Chris, the Town Cryer.
We also had other fun things to keep kids entertained throughout the day, plus at 4pm a special Coronation Quiz with our regular quiz master, Martin (yes, the one with the yellow dress on). Young Micky was our DJ, and at night we showed the Windsor Coronation Concert live on our TVs.
Monday: The Big Help Out
On a slightly damp Monday morning, the community took part in 'The Big Help Out' volunteers' day. We teamed up with Swan Support to organise a wildlife clean-up of our local area. The team assembled at the Windsor Leisure Centre and returned back to The Swan a few hours later. You can see that there was a asurprising amount of rubbish collected.
That's not all - our friends at the Cycle Hub had a special ride too to allow people to understand what they do and also the volunteering opportunities available.
At night the pub was reasonably busy as people started to wind down and get ready for the return to work.
The Coronation Weekend Menu
Kieran, with support from Micky and some volunteers, provided a very special menu each day of The Coronation Weekend.
