Renovation Diary: April 2021

Week 13/21: 2nd April 2021

The results of the air conditioning installation are visible ... for a short time only. The School room will be re-instated for the new term starting and below, the ceiling completed and made made for the sparkies and then plasterboarding.

The guys have been busy in The Kitchen and hallway too. The armoured cable protectors have been laid and the next layer of The Kitchen floor laid and tampered down.

The team aduring burying the cable protectors - havent even broken sweat The Kitchen floor now ready for concreting

And yet another delivery. This time it is for sand that will be used in the concrete for The Kitchen floor. The guys are now on a tight timetable as this must be cleared before re-opening on the 12th. Good luck!

Is the tipper really going to pick out the sand with the grabber?
No, tipping back slowly due to proximity to the ladies toilet
Sand starting to pour out
Now that is what you call a dump

And there were further deliveries too. The new stairs have been made and delivered, ready for installation in a couple of weeks. Also a lot of timber that is going to be required for The Kitchen, hallway and The Storeroom. Unfortunately the lads had to hire a van and pick this up ourselves, costing valuable time and cash.

Pre-manufactured pieces for the new stairs to The School House
Plywood and a lot of wood battons - and we mean a lot!
And even more plywood was required - hope they have done the sums correctly

Week 14/21: 9th April 2021

The Weekday Warriors have been extremely busy this week getting The Kitchen, hallway and Store Room ready for laying the concrete floor. This has required the floor to have foundations put down, levelled off with tons of sand, then thermal materials and finally damp proof sheeting laid on top. Oh, and the walls covered with damp proof membrane too and edges sealed and ....

All the walls have now got damp proof membrane
The sand had to be barrowed in and levelled

Not a mark in the sand - ready (hopefully)
In The Store Room, likewise ready to go

Whilst they were doing that, in parallel they were digging out the cellar drop, also reinstating The Kitchen wall that was removed to allow access, and also taking out the remaining window.

And on the Friday, after a very long night, the concrete turned-up and needed to be laid ... and quickly! It was all hands to the wellies and rakes to get it laid down. Here is the delivery side of it.

And here is the physically tough levelling bit whilst ensuring the concrete is to the correct consistency all the way through every cubc centimetre.

The Weekday Warriors

Week 15/21: 16th April 2021

With an inevitable focus on getting The Courtyard ready, and a need to let the kitchen floor dry out properly, there are fewer photos on offer this week. However, the Warriors have not been slacking and it is great to see the extent of the space where the kitchen will (soon?) be installed.

So the Warriors were working on the floor of The School House / cieling of The Kitchen to get it ready for the start of term.

Week 16/21: 23rd April 2021

The warmer weather hasn't reduced the work effort of the Weekday Warriors nor has it reduced their ability to put the boot in when needed! Encouraged by Tony's boot Ian is inspecting closely the extractor fan which rises from the kitchen through The School House.

Week 17/21: 30th April 2021

The Weekday Warriors have been surprisingly camera shy this week but the results of their work remain clearly visible. They have been hard at work clearing out wet and dry rot in the store room (aka Room Of Doom!).

The focus remains on preparing the kitchen ready for installation of the equipment generously donated by McFarlane Telfer who have been onsite again to help with planning out the install of services needed for connecting up all the kitchen equipment and AVS with the expansion of fire and kitchen alarm systems.

The Warriors have also been busy remodelling The School Room fireplace/chimney breast to reinstate it around the new kitchen extract ducting and reinstating flooring and wall panelling that had to be removed for installing joist supports, so the school room can be put back into regular use. The list of jobs seems never ending but real progress is still being made week by week.
