Last Orders for our Bar Manager

The sun shone brightly for our Bar Manager Michael’s final shift behind the bar before he embarks on an exciting new career as a Police Officer with Kent Police.

Michael first joined The Swan as a student, and over the years has become a familiar face at the heart of our pub. As Bar Manager, he has played an important role in helping make The Swan the welcoming, friendly and community-focused place it is today. Whether serving a perfectly kept pint, helping organise events, supporting our volunteers and community groups, or simply taking time to chat with customers, Michael has embodied everything that makes The Swan special. The Swan is far more than just a pub – it is a community hub, a social enterprise and a place where strangers become friends – and Michael has been a huge part of that story.

The afternoon itself was a fitting send-off. Friends, regulars, volunteers and members of the wider Swan family gathered to wish him well. Michael was presented with leaving cards and gifts, delivered an emotional speech reflecting on his time here, and then, understandably, celebrated the occasion with a few well-earned drinks.

Michael leaves with the thanks and best wishes of everyone connected with The Swan. During a period when the pub has continued to grow, win recognition and strengthen its place at the centre of village life, he has been part of the dedicated bar team helping to deliver that success day after day.

While we are sad to see him go, we couldn’t be prouder that he is beginning a career in public service. We know he will bring the same dedication, professionalism, good humour and caring attitude to policing that he has brought to The Swan.

Thank you, Michael, for everything you have done for The Swan, our customers and the community. You’ll be greatly missed behind the bar, but you’ll always be part of The Swan family.
