March 2025
Here is a round-up of the events at The Swan during March, 2025.
1st March: Windsor Cycle Hub
A super busy session doubtless due to the first decent Saturday of the year. Must be because it was St.David’s day. Our riders enjoyed the sun so much, they forgot to take any pictures. Plenty of were bikes fixed and security marked at The Bike Kitchen at The Swan.

1st March: Windsor Upper Schools Fundraiser
It was magnifique to see so many young folk and their families at the Swan on Saturday as we hosted a fundraiser for the Windsor Upper Schools upcoming music tour to Paris! L'ambience dans la courtyard was joyeuse with food, games and drinks. The Cowshed Stage was signed by plenty more up and coming musicians who kept us all royally entertained throughout the afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came, and if it was your first time at The Swan, we hope to see you again soon ... revien bientôt!

3rd March: Windsor Ukulele Band
Chris Brown of the Band was interviewed on Radio Berkshire regarding the Windsor Ukulele Band who are famously based at The Swan.
BBC Radio Berkshire Kirsten O'Brien in the morning
Presented by Kirsten O'Brien on Monday 3rd March 2025
Part One: introduction to the ukulele and the Band.
Part Two: Uku-oke and other events.
Thanks to the BBC Radio Berkshire team for allowing us to use this interview. For more information, please visit Windsor Ukulele Band website.

5th March: Windsor Town Funrunners
Happy First Birthday to the members of the WTF. A nice but bracing evening for a run through Windsor to the Castle and other local landmarks. And with cake and beer at the end, what's not to enjoy. Even David from the Bar Team is now joining in! New members welcome.

7-9th March: Beer Festival
We had our first beer festival of the year with a number of new and popular beers that hadn't been seen before. And we had the Windsor Ukulele Band playing on Friday with their own brand of Uku-oke. As you can see, band members sang, David from the bar sang, and all the rest joined in. Cracking weekend!

12th March: Quiz Night
Winners this week's quiz were Hettie's Heroes - that makes it two in a row for them. Ellie won a glass of wine in the raffle. Quiz Master Martin was at the helm as usual.

14th March: Prohibition Night
A small but intimate crowd were in The Coach House to beat the Probition. 'Non-Alcoholic' refreshments such as Giggle Water were available from the bar.

Jess provided the excellent entertainment whilst, at the ending of the evening, Micky tried to break the sound system with his rendition of My Way.

There was a scare at the beginning of the night when Mafiosi Martin banged on the door at 7pm shouting 'this is a raid!' and got the answer from Moonshine 'we are not ready yet'.

15th March: St Andrew's Repair Funds
Many thanks to Grant and Mirella, from Windsor Town Funrunners and the Chatty Café respectively, who did a fabulous job organising and leading a charity run and walk, raising an amazing £260 (so far) for the St Andrew's Church spire repairs.

And if you missed this one, they'll be doing it all over again on the morning of Saturday 3rd May, this time in aid of the Frontage Renovation Fund. What better way to kick off the special VE Day weekend - pencil it in now and we'll confirm details and timings nearer the day.
18th March: Micky and the BII
We are very excited to announce that Micky has made the quarter finals of the British Institute of Innkeeping Licensee of the Year 2025! This is the most prestigious award for licensees in the UK pub sector, and from 500 entries across the country he's made it to the top 50!

Thank you to those that wrote testimonials and for all of your support. The next stage is an unannounced visit from the judges between now and mid-April.
20th March: Bingo Night
Caller Richard was back in fine fettle for our March Bingo night! It was another fun night with Pablo and Alice winning small drinks, Dawn and Chris large drinks, whilst Sue, who'd travelled all the way from Nottingham scooped the double on Game 2! And on the final Top of the Bill Cash Jackpot game, Terry walked off with a tenner and Catherine a cool £25! A jolly good time was had by all!

24th March: Open Forum
Report to follow.

Micky's presentation is available for download here.
26th March: Quiz Night
This week we had a new team winning the quiz with Half a Dozen running out winners. Sitting out in The Coach House, they won with a magnificent performance. They had a bit of clean sweep as team member, Teresa, won the £30 jackpot. Congratualations!

27th March: Paris Invasion!
Mirella and some of her Conversational French students had a fabulous time on their first field trip to Paris. As well as taking the opportunity to see the sights, they all encouraged each other to practice speaking and successfully bought tickets, ordered in restaurants and generally chatted away en franꞔais. Although photos show only four people, there were a dozen there.

The Beret Brigade soon became noticed by the locals! And, they said, 'nous avons passé de belles vacances avec mes belles amies!' Conversational French for Beginners class runs every Friday from 1.30 – 2.30pm in the bar/Coach House. Everyone is welcome to join!
28th March: Coffee Morning
Our Charity Coffee Morning last week raised over £300 for Windsor Homeless Project – thank you to everyone who came along. And thank you also for those who have already donated sleeping bags, tents or warm outdoor clothing which are greatly appreciated. Toiletries such as shower gel and deodorant are also much needed - if you have anything you can spare, you can drop off at the bar during opening hours for collection.

30th March: Film Night
A small but perfectly formed group attended the Coach House Cinema for our showing of the 1972 musical 'Cabaret'. We sang along to 'Welkommen, Bien Venue, Welcome', laughed at 'Money, Money', and generally enjoyed a great film while Micky served us drinks in our seats! We also enjoyed our complimentary two fingers of chocolate covered wafters - we were in the Kit Kat Club after all!!
