England’s World Cup campaign concludes with a fascinating encounter against old rivals France as the two nations meet in the FIFA World Cup Third Place Play-Off.
Join us at The Swan, Clewer as we show the match live across all five screens in the pub, Coach House and Cow Shed.
While England and France have faced each other many times throughout football history, World Cup meetings between the two nations have been rare. England famously defeated France 2-0 in the group stage of the 1966 World Cup on the way to lifting the trophy, while the sides met again at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, where England won 3-1 with a memorable brace from Bryan Robson. More recently, France edged a dramatic 2-1 victory in the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Those meetings have helped create one of international football’s most compelling modern rivalries.
Now the two nations meet once again on the world stage.
Whether you’re backing England all the way, enjoying one last World Cup night with friends, or simply looking forward to a great game between two of Europe’s footballing heavyweights, The Swan is the place to watch it.
We’ll be showing every kick, tackle and goal live from 10:00pm, with the atmosphere building throughout the evening. And staying until the very last kick of the game!
Making a Day of It?
Saturday starts with our popular Christmas in July celebrations earlier in the day, followed by live music from Sharks in the Water and The Dutty Rascals before the football. The Dutty Rascals are renowned for their energetic mix of soul, Motown and funk classics that keep audiences dancing and singing along.
And if you’re joining us for the weekend, don’t forget Community Day on Sunday 19 July, when we celebrate The Swan’s 7th Birthday as a community-owned pub.
